Our Team

Katherine L. Carvlin is a naturopathic physician with a family practice specializing in environmental medicine. She has additional degrees in nutrition and psychology and has worked in the health industry since 2012.

As the President, Dr. Carvlin strives to uphold the NAEM as a leading naturopathic specialty organization. Her vision is to advance environmental medicine in the naturopathic field and in the primary care setting. 

As a practitioner, Dr. Carvlin emphasizes the use of diet and lifestyle, botanicals, IV therapy, hydrotherapy, and physical medicine in her practice. Her clinical specialties include: environmental medicine (i.e. allergies and asthma, mold-related illness, heavy metal toxicity, multiple chemical sensitivity, occupational exposure), fertility and preconception care, women’s health, GI conditions and digestive health, nutrition assessments and weight management, and autoimmune conditions. Dr. Louise Tolzmann ND got her Naturopathic Doctorate degree from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington in 1997 and completed two years of residency at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. She completed advanced training in environmental medicine with Dr. Walter Crinnion and is a fellow of the ISEAI (International Society of Environmentally Acquired Illness). Dr. Tolzmann has lectured on air quality, smoke exposure, wildfire risks, and toxic metals. She has also produced video resources for fire departments to utilize in the training of first responders. She is in private practice in Portland Oregon, where she specializes in environmental medicine and oncology.

Kim D. Furtado, N.D. received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (N.D.) degree from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington in 2000. She holds a Bachelor of Science Cum Laude in Biology from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.  Inspired by the healing power of naturopathic medicine, Dr. Furtado has been in private practice in Lewes, Delaware since 2001. Furtado's special interests include herbal medicine, nutrition, environmental medicine, chronic illness, and women's and children's health.

Kim D. Furtado, N.D. received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (N.D.) degree from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington in 2000. Tina Beaudoin, ND is a graduate of Bastyr University. She practices in Manchester, NH with a focus on environmental medicine and mental health. Since 2012, Dr. Beaudoin has been serving as the President of New Hampshire Association of Naturopathic Doctors. Dr. Beaudoin enjoys writing as well as public and corporate speaking to increase public and practitioner awareness about the significant impact of environmental toxins in health and wellness.

Dr. Marillea Yu, ND is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is a graduate of The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and the University of Prince Edward Island with a BSc in Biology. She has also completed advanced training in Environmental Medicine in 2017 with Dr. Walter Crinnion and is certified to provide Intravenous Nutrient Therapy.

Her clinical focus is on Environmental Medicine and the management of complex chronic illnesses such as chemical sensitivity, autoimmune disease and mold illness.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, she is passionate about improving access to health and wellness through education, patient advocacy and collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Dr. Lori Mae Janzen is a registered Naturopathic Doctor, practicing since 2007 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) and is a member of the MNA (Manitoba Naturopathic Association) and CAND (Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors).  

From early on, Dr. Janzen had a deep interest and love for plants & water, movement & nutrition and would dream about ways to heal naturally and bring long term health to the environments around her. Wanting to dig deeper and understand root causes for ill health, environmental medicine connected many of these dots. She completed Dr. Walter Crinnion’s Environmental Medicine Training course in 2009, which further solidified how environmental pollutants, toxins and toxicants impact nearly all health concerns. While attending her first Environmental Health Symposium (EHS), she became a member of the NAEM. Dr. Janzen most appreciates the ongoing support, information updates and inter-colleague learning of this association - helping to increase awareness and the depth of importance of this medical approach! 

In her current practice, in addition to environmental medicine, Dr. Janzen has a special interest in gastrointestinal, hormone, immune and neurological health and uncovering the missing pieces that contribute to new and chronic health concerns.

A busy mom of 3, away from her practice, you can find her cooking, seeking time in water & nature (summer and winter!), coaching her kids’ sports teams, enjoying music, learning new things, and spending time with her family.

Lyn Patrick ND graduated from Bastyr University in 1984 with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine and has been in private practice as a state licensed naturopathic physician in Arizona and Colorado for 35 years.

She is a published author of numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, a past Contributing Editor for Alternative Medicine Review, and recently authored a chapter in the newly released textbook Clinical Environmental Medicine (Elsevier 2019). She speaks internationally on environmental medicine, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, endocrine disruption, metal toxicology and other topics. She is currently Faculty for the Metabolic Medicine Institute Fellowship in collaboration with George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
She is a current member of the Board of Directors of the American College for the Advancement of Medicine (ACAM) and a planner and faculty member for ACAM’s continuing medical education conferences, lecturing in the area of chelation and metal toxicology. She is also a founding partner and presenter at the Environmental Health Symposium, an annual international environmental medicine conference based in the United States.
In her spare time she enjoys biking, hiking and kayaking the mountains, lakes, and rivers of southwestern Colorado.

Stephanie McCarter, M.D. currently practices internal medicine and environmental medicine at the Environmental Health Center of Dallas with fifteen years of experience working with its world renowned founder, Dr. William Rea.  She has built her own eco-friendly, low-electromagnetic-field home, consulting with well-known experts in healthy house building, including David Rousseau and Tang Lee of Canada, and Mary Oetzel in Texas.

She has lectured on Environmental Medicine in the areas of indoor/outdoor air quality, avoiding pollutants in air, food and water, evaluation and treatment of electromagnetic field sensitivity, and on preparing antigens for provocation / neutralization immunotherapy. Dr. McCarter has been acknowledged for her work on Dr. Rea’s book, “Reversibility of Chronic Degenerative Disease and Hypersensitivity”, Vol. 1. and his recent book, EMF Effects from Power Sources and Electrosmog.   She has extensive experience with electromagnetic sensitivity, lecturing on the subject at the University of Texas Dallas in March of 2017, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) basic course in Dallas in January of 2016, the AAEM Spring conference in April, 2015 and the 25th and 28th Annual International Symposiums on “Man and His Environment in Health and Disease.”

Dr. McCarter believes that the body is an energetically open system that is exchanging energy and materials with its surrounding environment and must be treated as such to achieve total wellness. She strongly believes such treatment should be of the whole body, mind, and spirit.

Michelle Perro, MD, DHOM is a veteran pediatrician with nearly 40 years of experience in acute and integrative medicine. More than fifteen years ago, Dr. Perro transformed her clinical practice to include pesticide and health advocacy. She has both directed and worked as attending physician from New York’s Metropolitan Hospital to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Dr. Perro has managed her own business, Down to Earth Pediatrics, creating a new field of integrative urgent care medicine. She is currently lecturing and consulting as well as working with Gordon Medical Associates, an integrative health center in Northern California.

Dr. Perro has co-authored the highly acclaimed book, “What’s Making our Children Sick” (https://www.chelseagreen.com/product/whats-making-our-children-sick/) and is Executive Director of a non-profit scientific-based website, https://www.gmoscience.org, and is an Expert Advisor to various organizations. She has authored many publications and has her own column with the journal, “The Townsend Letter”.

Bonnie Nedrow ND serves clients of all ages Ashland, Oregon where she works as a primary care doctor and a leader of several wellness programs. She lectures nationally to the public and her peers on detoxification, impacts of environmental medicine on reproductive health, and preconception optimization. She has co-published The Cleanse Companion Cookbook and The Seasonal Cleanse Workbook, and is currently writing her third book, The Seven Strategies of Detoxification. BonnieND.com

Kathleen Mulligan is a strategic marketing expert with a strong passion for environmental medicine. She has two children who struggled with severe physical, cognitive and mental health symptoms for seven years before discovering functional and environmental medicine and restoring their health. Kathleen is very educated and passionate about environmental and functional medicine and patient advocacy. She wants to use her strategic communication background to help NAEM have a stronger voice in building awareness and actionability in the diagnosis and treatment of environmental toxins.

Cristine Ehly is a naturopathic doctor (ND) serving women with ADHD and ADHD-like symptoms. She is especially interested in the intersection of gut-brain communication, the stress response, emotional regulation, and mindset. By addressing each of these areas she helps her patients transform overwhelm and inattention into the focus, calm, and confidence that nurtures more harmonious, productive lives. Cristine looks forward to utilizing her skills in naturopathic medicine and interest in patient and clinician education to help support and grow NAEM.
